What is Holistic Trauma-sensitive Yoga Therapy?
Yoga is holistic and healing in that it offers a wide variety of tools that promote health, healing, and transformation. Tools of yoga include, but are not limited to: postures, breathing techniques, meditation, gestures, use of sound, self-inquiry. Trauma-sensitive yoga is yoga as exercise, adapted for work with individuals affected by psychological trauma. It’s goal is to help trauma survivors to develop a greater sense of mind-body connection, to ease their physiological experiences of trauma, to gain a greater sense of ownership over their bodies, and to augment their overall well-being.
The objective of my holistic trauma-sensitive therapy is to help clients heighten their body awareness—to notice what is happening inside their bodies—and thereby learn to release tension, reduce and control fear and arousal, and tolerate sensation. The practice is based on the growing understanding that trauma takes a heavy toll on the body and the brain. When the body absorbs and anticipates trauma, individuals are likely to experience hyperarousal, hypervigilance, and an inability to calm themselves. At the same time, their bodies respond by shuttering or dampening sensation. They avoid stimuli and their bodies become numb. Holistic trauma-sensitive yoga helps clients learn to calm their minds and regulate their physical responses and, thus, their emotions. They're able to learn to recognize and tolerate physical sensations and thereby regain a feeling of safety inside their bodies.

What is TRAUMA FOCUSED NARRATIVE THERAPY?
Trauma Focused Narrative Therapy focuses on healing trauma and grief through redemption and story.
The trauma narrative is a psychological technique used to help survivors of trauma make sense of their experiences, while also acting as a form of exposure to the beauty hidden within the ashes of their story.
Without treatment, the memories of a trauma can feel like a jumbled mess—an unbearable wash of images, sounds, and emotions. When completing a trauma narrative, the story of a traumatic experience will be told repeatedly through verbal, written, or artistic means. Sharing and expanding upon a trauma narrative allows the individual to organize their memories, making them more manageable, and diminishing the painful emotions they carry.
From just one story, we can uncover not only the trauma that still lives in you now but also a clear picture of attachment style, connections to self, vows created, and agreements you may live by in present day. The body keeps the score, so what occurred years ago may still be living within you now, alive in ways you may not recognize.
Trauma Focused Narrative Therapy helps you uncover and bring redemption into the darkest parts of your story and your life.
